Hello everyone. Welcome to the inauguration of my first blog. I don’t know what type of audience I will attract with my content, but I hope to be informative to whomever stumbles upon my ramblings.
The purpose of this site is to demonstrate my programming, scripting and networking skillls. For this reason I have choosen to deploy my own WordPress site on a GCP compute engine instance. I have also created a quite unnecessary and complicated setup by making the deployment multi cloud, with the database being hosted on a AWS RDS instance. The infrastructure for this site was deployed on a GitHub-Actions pipeline using Terraform as the orchestration manager and Ansible to configure the VM. The IAC for this site can be found at my GitHub page: https://github.com/newknowledg/Blog_Repo/tree/main
Who Am I
I am an autodidact and Linux enthusiasts. That is the most succinct way of saying it. At least in the terms relevant to this blog.
I am a self taught DevOps Engineer that managed to land his first job with essentially no previous experience and after a year and a half I’ve been promoted to a Senior Engineer. What that ultimately means is that I’m still learning. But I feel that should be the sentiment of everybody in the tech space.
Learning is my favourite pass time. From running servers to learning new languages I am always engaged. In truth I find it difficult to turn off as there is just so much new to experiences and so many personally undiscovered revelations that I wish to absorb. If I am not learning then I am solving a problem, a puzzle, playing chess and occasionally vegging out to a good television show.
My Goal
With the articles that I will be publishing to this site, I aim to demonstrate my competence and troubleshooting skills in all the areas managed by DevOps Engineers.
I will accomplish this by reviewing the many skills I have already learned. But I also intend to keep track of the new skills that I learn and my progression as a DevOps Engineer. I will share my stumbles and solutions. It would be my greatest hope that this blog can be of help to others on there journey to becoming a DevOps Engineer.
